Class D Helicopter Long Line Rescue technique, also known as Human External Cargo (HEC) or Helicopter External Transport Systems (HETS), is a rescue technique that can be used by trained rescuers and pilots as a team in order to extricate or rescue stranded and or/injured persons from otherwise inaccessible or technical terrain.

VSI offers a certification training program for pilots in Class-D HETS Longline Rescue.  For this training, we supply our own VSI Transport Canada-approved HETS system.   Each load bearing component of the HETS is listed on a Supplementary Type Certificate (STC) from Transport Canada (TC) or Limited Supplementary Type Certificate.
